Of Bednarek's work, art critic Eleanor Hartley
writes:
Sarah Bednarek's sculptures serve up deliberate
contradictions. At
once humorous and critical, they apply subtle alterations to ordinary
objects. For example, the apparently innocous landscape depicted on a
slipcover for an upholstered couch turns out to be overrun with
images of militants and revolutionaries. Similarly, a pair of palm
trees has taken on jungle camouflage. Such works make the point that,
even in our homes or on vacation, we can't avoid the conflicts and
political upheavals of contemporary life.
