IN MEMORIAM
Richard Carlyon, dear friend, remarkable artist,
and founding Blackbird contributor, died in January 2006.
We hope that you will revisit his video Flight Song in our first issue as well as Selected Work, a
documentation of his fall 2005 show at Richmond’s Reynolds Gallery, in
our eighth. Both pieces are accompanied by commentaries
that create a critical context for the work, as well as by Richard’s marvelous
voice, talking, as he did so brilliantly, about art.
Here is a short goodbye provided by video shot by
Richard’s wife, Eleanor Rufty, and his son, Jason Carlyon, in Italy in
the summer of 2005 and in Richmond after Christmas 2004, respectively.
