Terrance Hayes is the author of four books of poetry: Lighthead (Penguin, 2010), the winner of the 2010 National Book Award; Wind in a Box (Penguin, 2006); Hip Logic (Penguin, 2002), winner of a National Poetry Series award; and Muscular Music (Tia Chucha, 1999), winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. His poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, and The American Poetry Review. Hayes has received several awards and honors including a Whiting Writers Award, a Pushcart Prize, selections in Best American Poetry, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. He has an MFA in poetry from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University.
