Janet Peery is the author of the short story collection Alligator Dance (Southern Methodist University Press, 1993) and three books from St. Martins Press: The Exact Nature of Our Wrongs (forthcoming), What the Thunder Said (2007), and The River Beyond the World (1996). Her stories have appeared in Southern Review, Shenandoah, Kenyon Review, American Short Fiction, and elsewhere. A finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction in 1996, she has won the Library of Virginia Literary Award for Fiction and the WILLA Literary Award for Contemporary Fiction. She has also received the Whiting Writers Award, the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. She teaches at Old Dominion University.
