Recent Awards for Current and Previous Blackbird Contributors

Teaching the Baby to Say I Love You by Craig Beaven has won the 2021 Anhinga-Robert Dana Prize for Poetry.

Craig Beaven is a winner of the 2021 CutBank Chapbook Contest. His book will be published by CutBank in 2022.

Joshua Bennet is winner of the 2021 Whiting Award in Poetry and Nonfiction.

Paula Bohince won The Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Award for her translations of Corrado Govoni’s work.

Traci Brimhall’s poem “Contender” has received a Pushcart Prize.

Victoria Chang’s poetry collection Obit was shortlisted for the 2021 Griffin Poetry Prize.

Camille Dungy received the prestigious Academy of American Poets Fellowship for 2021.

In the Lateness of the World by Carolyn Forché was awarded the American Book Award.

Amina Gautier is the recipient of the Letras Boricuas Fellowship by the Flamboyan Arts Foundation and the Mellon Foundation.

Life among the Terranauts by Caitlin Horrocks has been longlisted for the 2022 Joyce Carol Oates Prize.

Robert Wood Lynn is winner of the 2021 Yale Series of Younger Poets.

Low Budget Movie, a chapbook co-authored by Kendra DeColo and Tyler Mills, was awarded the New England Poetry Club’s Jean Pedrick Chapbook Prize.

Tyler Mills has received a 2021 literature grant from the Café Royal Cultural Foundation.

Sejal Shah and Kiki Petrosino have both received 2021 Independent Publisher Book Awards. Shah’s This Is One Way to Dance won a silver award in the Creative Nonfiction category. Petrosino’s White Blood: A Lyric of Virginia won a silver award in the Poetry category.

Catherine Pierce was selected as Poet Laureate of Mississippi.

How to Survive Death and Other Inconveniences by Sue Silverman received a 2020 INDIES Gold Award for Autobiography & Memoir (Adult Nonfiction).

Natasha Trethewey was a 2020 Bobbitt Prize Winner.

John Sibley Williams’s book The Drowning House was selected by John A. Nieves as winner of the 2020 Elixir Press Poetry Award.
