Bernard Martin (1935–2021) has had work included in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and other national and international private collections. His professional career included over fifty individual exhibitions and more than two hundred group exhibitions. He was the recipient of a Theresa Pollak Prize for Excellence in the Arts from Richmond Magazine and an individual research grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Bernard Martin was an emeritus professor of painting at Virginia Commonwealth University where he was the first chair of the Department of Painting and Printmaking.
