John Newman was born in Flushing, New York,
in 1952. He earned a BA from Oberlin College in 1973 and an MFA
from Yale University in 1975. He presently lives and works in New
York City. For more than twenty years, Newman has regularly shown
in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
His sculpture and drawings are represented in numerous collections
worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He has been
commissioned to make large-scale, outdoor works at Storm King Art
Center, Mountainville, NY; Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ;
General Mills Art Collection Sculpture Park, Minneapolis, MN; and
Dai Nippon, Tokyo.
