Angela Davis-Gardner is the author of two novels, Felice (Random
House, 1982) and Forms of Shelter (Ticknor & Fields,
1991). Her third novel, Plum Wine is forthcoming
in the fall of 2005. "The True Daughter" is
from Home by Water, a collection of linked short-short
stories in progress. Davis-Gardner's fiction and essays have appeared
in numerous journals, including Shenandoah, The Cream
City Review, Great River Review, and The Greensboro
Review, as well as in the anthology Between Friends: Writing
Women Celebrate Friendship (Houghton Mifflin, 1994). She teaches
at North Carolina State University and lives in Raleigh, North
Carolina.
