RICHARD CARLYON | Selected Work Introduction Artist, teacher, and friend Richard Carlyon died
Friday, January 20, 2006, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was
75. We wish that we could better convey the texture, scale, and subtle grace of these paintings, drawings, and moving images, but we hope that you will leave here with some sense of the remarkable sensibility that provides the anima for work that is—in turns—meditative, witty, intimate, and provocative. Richard Carlyon’s art affords its own echoes of a shimmering world, one where the tactile seduction of a surface provides a portal to the ongoing conversation that art grants us all.
Richard Carylon’s Flight Song and an August 2002 interview appear in Blackbird, v1n1.
