Lee Smith’s most recent work, a memoir titled Dimestore: A Writer’s Life was published in March 2016 by Algonquin Books. Smith has also published 13 novels and four collections of short stories, including the bestselling novels The Last Girls (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2002), winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award (2002), and Fair and Tender Ladies (Putnam, 1988). She is a recipient of a Literary Lifetime Achievement Award from the Library of Virginia (2010), the Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1999) and the North Carolina Award for Literature (1984), among numerous others. She lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
