Addie W. Hunton (1866–1943) was an African American activist, writer, political organizer, and educator. Her published works include William Alphaeus Hunton: A Pioneer Prophet of Young Men (Association Press, 1938) and Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces, with Kathryn M. Johnson (Brooklyn Eagle Press, 1920). She was the first black woman to graduate from Spencerian College of Commerce in 1889. As an activist and organizer, she worked for the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), served as the national organizer for the National Association of Colored Women (NACW) from 1906 to 1910, and contributed to the Equal Suffrage League. She served in the U.S. Army during World War I, developing programs to assist segregated companies of Black American troops.
