The Whywolf
The whywolf has questions about flower stamens.
The whywolf doesn’t get why lightbulbs work,
not the electricity part but like the mechanism itself.
The whywolf’s search history is full of questions
like “Why do airplanes crash” and “Why do
people get divorced” and “Why cancer” and
“Why wasps.” The whywolf wants to be able
to fix everything, if we’re being honest. It wants
to prepare for any terrible maybe or eventuality
so as to most efficiently stem or stopper or instantly
obliterate it. The whywolf is pretty sure that enough
understanding will render the wild world safe.
That nightmare unknowns are just dark rooms
and knowledge is a floodlight. It has to be this way,
thinks the whywolf. It has to. Because.
