Last Spring, Frank's Deli
This
is "Last Spring, Frank's Deli."

In
my work there is a tendency to take things apart and generate new
bodies of work from the parts, so this is "Frank's Deli"
for the exhibition, "The Photogenic," and comes from a
series of Doppelgangers. And as you can see, it's a much larger
piece than what you saw for "Strings, Things, and Pictures,"
but it's the samepretty muchoperation. The great thing
about this is it's about a deli and most people have been to the
deli, or a deli, unlike my mother, who most people haven't met.
There is a little bit more open territory here for recognition.

As
you can see, on the countertop here, there are these objects that
have been part of the Doppelganger and Shadow Project series, and
also they're objects that often have a life of their own.
Untitled
Object

Like
this one, from 1999, which, by pure chance, had a shoelace stuck
in it. Well beforeI mean, it didn't even occur to me that
there was a shoelace in it until I had come sort of full circle
thinking about the shoe repair shops, and using shoelaces.
