LORRAINE ADAMS
Fourth Annual VCU First Novelist Award Reading
In February of 2006, novelist and Pulitzer
Prize-winning journalist Lorraine Adams visited Virginia Commonwealth
University to receive the Fourth Annual VCU First Novelist Award.
Dr. Robert Holsworth, Acting Dean of VCU’s College of Humanities
& Sciences, introduced the event; Clint McCown of VCU’s MFA
Program in Creative Writing introduced Adams; and Adams read from her
award-winning novel, Harbor (Knopf, 2004). During Adams’s visit,
Michaux Dempster of Blackbird spoke with her about the
making of Harbor and her transition from journalism
to fiction.
