R. T. Smith is the author of two collections of short stories, Faith (Black Belt, 1995) and Uke Rivers Delivers, to be published later this year by LSU. His stories have appeared or are forthcoming in The Southern Review, Sou’wester, Idaho Review, Appalachian Heritage, and in Blackbird (vol. 3, no. 1), as well as the anthologies New Stories from the South (Algonquin, 2002, 2004, and 2006); and Best American Short Stories (2004), and Best American Mystery Stories (2006), both from Houghton Mifflin. In 2005 he was awarded a Pushcart Prize for his fiction.

Smith is also the author of several collections of poetry, including, most recently The Hollow Log Lounge (Illinois, 2003), winner of the 2004 Maurice English Prize, and the chapbook, Ensemble (Talking Rivers, 2006). He lives in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
