Sam Pereira received his BA from California State University, Fresno and his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His books include The Marriage of the Portuguese (L’Epervier Press, 1978) and Brittle Water (Abattoir Editions/Penumbra Press, University of Nebraska at Omaha, 1987). He has published poems in such magazines as Poetry, Antioch Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Cutbank, and American Poetry Review. His newest collection, A Café in Boca, is scheduled to be published by Tebot Bach in 2007. The poem “On a Day When Rocks Can Think” is from a new, as yet untitled, manuscript.
