Stories from John Allman’s recently completed collection of short fiction, A Fine Romance, have appeared in Storyglossia and Michigan Quarterly Review. Allman’s first collection of stories, Descending Fire & Other Stories (1994), was published by New Directions, which has published most of his seven books of poetry, including Loew’s Triboro (2004) and Lowcountry (2007). The recipient of two Pushcart Prizes as well as a fellowship in poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Helen Bulls Prize from Poetry Northwest, Allman has published poems, stories, and essays in such journals as The American Poetry Review, The Atlantic Monthly, The Antioch Review, The Massachusetts Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, North Dakota Quarterly, The Paris Review, Poetry, Poetry International, The Quarterly, The Yale Review, and Full Circle. Allman holds an MA in creative writing from Syracuse University and is now retired from teaching. He lives in Katonah, New York, and spends his winters on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
