Levis Remembered     
This issue of Blackbird introduces six previously unpublished poems by the inestimable Larry Levis, from The Darkening Trapeze: The Uncollected Poems of Larry Levis (forthcoming from Graywolf Press, 2015). The reading loop also features the work of this year’s Levis Reading Prize winner, Michael McGriff. The prize is given annually by the Levis family and VCU’s Department of English to a promising poet for their first or second published book.   Larry Levis
Blackbird/Diode Reading, AWP 2013     
On March 7, 2013, Blackbird and diode hosted an off-site poetry reading at Sweetwater Tavern during the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference in Boston. Poets Traci Brimhall, Andrea Cohen, Tarfia Faizullah, Bob Hicok, Jamaal May, Catherine Pierce, Liana Quill, Brynn Saito, David Wojahn, and C. Dale Young all read from their original work.   C. A Reading by Tom Sleigh     
Tom Sleigh, winner of the Kingsley Tufts Award for his collection Space Walk (Houghton Mifflin, 2007), read on March 14, 2013 at Scott House on the Virginia Commonwealth University campus as part of the VCU Visiting Writers Series. He is introduced by VCU professor David Wojahn. The Visiting Writers series is sponsored by the VCU Department of English and the Graduate Writers Association, among others.   Tom Sleigh

Tarfia Faizullah and Jamaal May, editors of the Organic Weapon Arts Chapbook Series, read at Chop Suey Books in Richmond, Virginia on September 30, 2012. A Reading by MacDonald & McCown     
Catherine MacDonald and Clint McCown read as part of the VCU Visiting Writers Series on February 7, 2013 in the VCU Scott House. MacDonald read poems from her book Rousing the Machinery (University of Arkansas Press, 2012) as well as some previously unpublished work. McCown read an excerpt from his novel Haints (New Rivers Press, 2012). MacDonald was introduced by David Wojahn and McCown was introduced by Gregory Donovan.   Catherine MacDonald
A Conversation with Kristen Radtke    
Kristen Radtke’s video essay “Ruin,” which addresses how we think about post-industrial Detroit as well as historical and personal ruins, appears in this issue’s Gallery. She talks here with Mary Selph about process, influences, our cultural obsession with ruins, and her growing fascination with video essays. She discusses her other projects, including illustrated essays, recent examples of which can be found in Brevity and The Normal School.   Kristen Radtke
