LEANNE HOWE

LeAnne Howe is the author of Choctalking on Other Realities (2013), winner of the 2014 Modern Language Association’s inaugural Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Cultures, and Languages; Miko Kings: An Indian Baseball Story (2007); and Shell Shaker (2001), winner of a 2002 American Book Award, all from Aunt Lute Books. She is also the author of the poetry collection Evidence of Red (Salt Publishing, 2005), and coeditor of Seeing Red—Hollywood’s Pixeled Skins: American Indians and Film (Michigan University Press, 2013). Her poetry has appeared in 580 Split, Cutthroat JournalNew Letters MagazineNorth American Review, and Red Ink. She is currently at work on a documentary film, Searching For Sequoyah, with Ojibwe filmmaker James M. Fortier, about the life of Sequoyah, a Cherokee leader and creator of the first written indigenous language in Native North America. Howe is the Eidson Distinguished Professor of American Literature at the University of Georgia.  end
