Stephen Dunn (1939–2021) was the author of numerous collections of poetry, including Pagan Virtues (W.W. Norton & Company, 2019), Keeper of Limits (Sarabande Books, 2015), Lines of Defense (W.W. Norton & Company, 2014), Here and Now (W.W. Norton & Company, 2011), What Goes On: New and Selected Poems 1995–2009 (W.W. Norton & Company, 2009), and Different Hours (W.W. Norton & Company, 2000), which won the Pulitzer Prize. His books of prose include Degrees of Fidelity: Essays on Poetry and the Latitudes of the Personal (Tiger Bark Press, 2018), Walking Light: Essays and Memoirs (BOA Editions, reissued 2001), and Riffs and Reciprocities: Prose Pairs (W.W. Norton & Company, 1998). Dunn was the recipient of numerous honors, including the Pulitzer Prize, fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the James Wright Prize, and the Academy Award for Literature. He was a distinguished professor of creative writing at Stockton University, and lived in Maryland with his wife, the writer Barbara Hurd, until his death in 2021.
