Larry I. Palmer is the author of the memoir, Scholarship Boy: Meditations on Family and Race (Paul Dry Books, 2020). He is also the author of the study guide, Susceptible to Kindness: Miss Evers’ Boys and the Tuskegee Syphilis Study (Cornell University, 1994), and executive producer of the accompanying video. Excerpts of his memoir have appeared in Blackbird and New England Review. His essays, “The Haircut” and “Urshel: The Beautiful Lost Sheep” were cited as notable essays in The Best American Essays 2017 and 2015 (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). Palmer was a 2021 Peter Taylor Fellow at the Kenyon Review’s Writers Workshop Online. His professional work focused on health policy and bioethics, including Endings and Beginnings: Law, Medicine, and Society in Assisted Life and Death (Praeger, 2000) and Law, Medicine and Social Justice (Westminster/John Knox Press, 1989). Palmer is an emeritus professor of law at Cornell University.
