Ron Slate’s most recent book of poems is The Great Wave (Houghton Mifflin, 2009). His previous book, The Incentive of the Maggot (Houghton Mifflin, 2005), winner of the 2006 Levis Reading Prize, was nominated for both the National Book Circle Critics and the Lenore Marshall poetry prizes and won the Bakeless Prize. He earned an MA in creative writing from Stanford in 1973. From 1973–1988 he edited The Chowder Review. His poetry has been widely published in journals such as Antaeus, The Georgia Review, and Poetry Northwest. He reviews books at his website “On the Seawall.”
