CLAUDIA EMERSON

Claudia Emerson’s book, Late Wife (Louisiana State University Press, 2005) was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. Currently serving as Poet Laureate of Virginia, Emerson is also the author of Pharaoh, Pharaoh (1997), Pinion, An Elegy (2002), and Figure Studies (2008), all from Louisiana State University Press. Her work appears in numerous publications, including Poetry Magazine, Prairie Schooner, Smartish Pace, The Southern Review, Crazyhorse, New England Review, Shenandoah, and TriQuarterly. She has been awarded individual artist’s fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts and received the Witter Bynner Fellowship from the Library of Congress. She is professor of English and Arrington Distinguished Chair in poetry at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  end
