Bob Hicok is the author of seven books of poetry, including Words for Empty and Words for Full (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2010), This Clumsy Living (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2007), which won the 2008 Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry, and The Legend of Light (University of Wisconsin Press, 1995), which won the 1995 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry. A German translation of This Clumsy Living was released by luxbooks in 2011. Hicok has received fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, and has won three Pushcart Prizes. He is an associate professor of creative writing at Virginia Tech.
