MARGRÉT BLÖNDAL Introduction: A Conversation with Margrét Blöndal In January of 2007, Icelandic artist Margrét Blöndal visited Richmond, Virginia to deliver a lecture at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts and to create an installation at Solvent Space, the experimental exhibition gallery curated by VCU’s Department of Painting and Printmaking. On January 26, 2007, the day of the opening reception, Blackbird editor Gregory Donovan viewed the exhibition with the artist and conducted an afternoon interview with Blöndal. As they spoke, they reviewed photographs of Blöndal’s previous exhibitions, and they discussed her process in assembling her newly created installation as well. Photographs of the Solvent Space exhibition were provided by Holly Morrison, Associate Professor in the Department of Painting and Printmaking at VCU.
