Fatima Mostafawi earned her BFA in graphic design from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. Her initial work on Gathering the Tide came under the auspices of an Undergraduate Research Experience Program grant awarded by the Qatar Foundation and the Qatar National Research Fund. She is currently assistant curator at the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar.
