Hend Mubarek Aleidan began her initial work on Gathering the Tide under the auspices of an Undergraduate Research Experience Program grant awarded by the Qatar Foundation and the Qatar National Research Fund. She is a 2009 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, holding a BFA in graphic design.
