back MEGAN PEAK
How the Wasp Girl Nests
the wasps erect a paper home
apertures honeycombed and spit-made
it hangs from the roof like a pocked
cradle / ulcer on the eaves whirring
upstairs the buzz of a girl / her body
a little vibrator in a heaven-spot
molars jiggling through the head all the while
the clink of her parents downstairs
fork knife aperitif / she wants to purr
like a kitten-mouth / larynx open open
closed / when they call her for dinner
she takes her time slipping on her panties
the ones with the tiny ladybugs twirling
like red paper fans on a humid night
she takes her time slinking down the stairs
to the table where she giggles / thinks
how she wants to feed herself to a man
like thread feeds a needle / the sound of silver-
ware far away because no one told her
she could ring her own bell and love it
her father talks of calling an exterminator
the wasps are out of control / multiplying
everything tuned out now except
the hum of her hive: again again
