Peggy Shumaker has published several collections of poems: Underground Rivers, (Red Hen Press, 2002), Wings Moist from the Other World (1994), Braided River (Limner Press, chapbook, 1993), The Circle of Totems (1988), and Esperanza’s Hair (1985). Her essays have appeared in Under Northern Lights, Ascent, Prairie Schooner, A Year in Place, and A Road of Her Own. Shumaker was the 1999 Poet in Residence of the Stadler Center for Poetry at Bucknell University. In 1989, she received a poetry fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work has been published in anthologies and journals in Russia, Japan, Australia, Canada, and throughout the USA. She has given readings, lectures, and workshops all over the country. Shumaker has served as president of the board of the Associated Writing Programs and as a board member for the Literacy Council of Alaska. She is professor emerita at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
