Charles Martin is the author of five collections of poetry, including Signs & Wonders (Hopkins University Press, 2011), Starting from Sleep: New and Selected Poems (Overlook Press, 2002), which was a finalist for the 2003 Lenore Marshall Award, What the Darkness Proposes (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996), and Steal the Bacon (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1987). He is also the translator of two works, Ovid’s Metamorphoses (W. W. Norton, 2004), which won the Harold Morton Landon Award, and The Poems of Catullus (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1989). Martin’s poems have also appeared in numerous journals, including Poetry, The New Yorker, The Hudson Review, Boulevard, and The Threepenny Review. Martin is the recipient of a Bess Hokin Award, a Pushcart Prize, and fellowships from the Ingram Merrill Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He served as Poet-in-Residence at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York from 2005 to 2009.
