Matthew Phipps, a former literary intern at Blackbird, is a second-year MFA student in fiction at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he currently coordinates the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. Phipps is the recipient of a grant from the Fulbright Program. He earned a BA in creative writing from Florida State University.
