Margaret Gibson is the Connecticut State Poet Laureate (2019–2022) and the author of thirteen books of poems from Louisiana State University Press, most recently The Glass Globe (2021). She is also editor of Waking Up to the Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis (Grayson Books, 2021) and author of the childhood memoir, The Prodigal Daughter (University of Missouri Press, 2008). Her work and interviews have appeared in The Georgia Review, Gettysburg Review, Image, The Southern Review, and elsewhere. Her awards include the Poets Laureate Fellowship (Academy of American Poets, 2020); the Connecticut Book Award for One Body (2008); the Melville Kane Award (cowinner) for Memories of the Future (The Poetry Society of America, 1986); and the Lamont Selection for Long Walks in the Afternoon (Academy of American Poets, 1982). The Vigil was a finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry in 1993, and Broken Cup a Finalist for the Poets’ Prize in 2016. She is Professor Emerita at the University of Connecticut.
