Hwang Jini (황진이 / 黃眞伊) (1506–1567) is one of the most talked about, mythologized Korean woman poets of the Joseon dynasty. She was a famous courtesan and became widely known for her artistic prowess. Unfortunately, despite her renown and prolific writing life, most of her poems were lost in the following tumultuous centuries, and only a handful of them have survived to this day.
