Nabaneeta Dev Sen received an MA from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, in 1958, an MA in comparative literature from Harvard University in 1961, and a PhD in comparative literature from Indiana University in 1964. She has held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California–Berkeley and elsewhere. She has published more than eighty books in Bengali: poetry, novels, short stories, plays, literary criticism, personal essays, travelogues, humor writing, translations, and children’s literature. Her most recent publications are the novel Ramdhan Mittir Lane (Pushpa, 2006) and the children’s book Ek Dazan Roopkatha (Patrabharati, 2006). Translations of her poems by Carolyne Wright and other translators have appeared in AGNI, New England Review & Bread Loaf Quarterly, Nimrod, Indian Love Poems (Everyman’s Library, 2005), In Their Own Voice: The Penguin Anthology of Contemporary Indian Women Poets (Penguin Books, 1993), and Elisabeth Bumiller’s best-selling book, May You Be the Mother of a Hundred Sons: A Journey Among the Women of India (Ballantine Books, 1991, paperback edition). She is the founder and president of Soi, Women Writers’ Association of West Bengali.  end
