Jeanne Larsen’s latest book is Willow, Wine, Mirror, Moon: Women’s Poems from Tang China (BOA Editions, Ltd., 2005). She has published another volume of literary translations, Brocade River Poems: Selected Works of the Tang Dynasty Courtesan Xue Tao (Princeton University Press, 1987), as well as three novels, Silk Road (1989), Bronze Mirror (1991), and Manchu Palaces (1996), all from Henry Holt & Co. Larsen’s first book, James Cook in Search of Terra Incognita (University Press of Virginia, 1979) won the AWP poetry competition for that year. Her poems, literary essays, and short fiction have appeared in such journals as The Chattahoochee Review, Hunger Mountain, The Sewanee Review, Fourth Genre, The Greensboro Review, and the web edition of Tricycle: The Buddhist Review. Larsen has received fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts for literary translation, the Japan/U.S. Friendship Commission Creative Artists Exchange Fellowship in creative nonfiction, the Virginia Commission for the Arts for fiction, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference John Gardner Fellowship in Fiction, the William L. Crawford Award for best new novelist, and from the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. She has also held residencies in poetry and other genres from the Millay Colony for the Arts, the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Eastern Frontier Society, as well as student awards from the Academy of American Poets and other scholarly grants and fellowships. She teaches literature and creative writing at Hollins University and lives in Roanoke County, Virginia.
